This article applies to:
E-Prime 3.0
This has been introduced in E-Prime 3.0 Update 3 (3.0.3.214).
Detail
When installing E-Prime on a machine, the Registration and Validation process needs to be completed before the E-Studio application can be opened (LICENSE: Registration and Validation [39159]). There are multiple methods to deploy a Cloud License to a computer. This article describes PST's recommendations for doing so.
NOTE: Please contact Psychology Software Support for recommendations if unsure about which method to use to apply a Cloud License.
Recommendations for licensing a single machine (e.g., personal computer)
Please follow the steps below to apply a Cloud License on a single machine:
- Obtain the Cloud License serial number. The serial number is emailed to the person who purchased the Cloud License.
- Create a PST Support Account if necessary and register the serial number to the account (INFO: How to Register for Support and Access Downloads [27523]).
- Download E-Prime 3.0 Update 3 or later from the support site (earlier versions do not support Cloud Licensing).
- Install E-Prime. Enter User and Institution information when prompted. Accept the default setting to launch E-Studio after installing.
- Open E-Studio, accept the End User License Agreement (EULA), and view the Registration prompt.
- Open a web browser and login to the PST License Portal - mylicense.pstnet.com. The login information is the same as the Support login.
- Register the Cloud License serial number on the License Portal if it was not already registered on the PST Product Service and Support site.
- Access the Cloud License serial number. Accept ownership of the Cloud License if the Ownership dialog appears.* Otherwise, continue to the next step.
- Navigate to the Identity tab. Please view LICENSE: The PST License Portal [39800] for more information on Identities.
- Copy the Identity information to clipboard by clicking on the Copy icon next to the Identity.
- Return to the E-Studio Registration dialog. Click the Paste button to paste in the license information that was copied to clipboard. NOTE: The image below shows clicking the Copy button in the Portal and the Paste button on the Registration dialog.
- Click OK. If licensed correctly, E-Studio shall open with full capabilities. In the event a licensing error occurred, please view LICENSE: E-Prime 3.0 License Violation and Grace Period dialogs [23677].
* Only accept ownership of the license when certain you are the Cloud License owner. Ownership may be transferred when the wrong owner is established.
Recommendations for licensing multiple machines (e.g., a lab)
Although copying the Identity from the PST License Portal may be the most straight-forward approach to licensing a machine, that method may not be ideal for licensing multiple machines. Users who are responsible for multiple machines should follow one of the recommended methods below to apply Cloud License:
Specifying Machine Name and IP Address in the License Portal
By specifying a few additional pieces of information in the E-Prime License Portal (LICENSE: The PST License Portal [39800]), license administrators can simplify the Registration and Validation process for end users and eliminate the need to log into the License Portal. Once the steps shown below are followed, the user, institution, and serial number fields can be entered by the end user during the installation process and the Registration process can be completed by pressing the OK button; the end user will not need to log into the license portal as described above.
- Install E-Prime on all of the machines that are going to run E-Studio. Enter User, Institution, and Serial Number information when prompted. Take note of the names of the machines; this information is needed later. Do not launch E-Studio at this time.
- Open a web browser and login to the PST License Portal - mylicense.pstnet.com. The login information is the same as the Support login.
- Register the Cloud License serial number on the License Portal (if it was not already done on the PST Product Service and Support site).
- Access the Cloud License serial number. Accept ownership of the Cloud License if the Ownership dialog appears. *Otherwise, continue to the next step.
- Navigate to the Identity tab. Please view LICENSE: The PST License Portal [39800] for more information on Identities.
- Create a unique Identity per machine (e.g., 10 machines equals 10 identities):
- Create a unique name for the Identity. This helps to determine which machine is using the Identity.
- Specify whether the Identity is able to be detached and is enabled.
- Assign the name of the machine to the Machine Name column (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/do-you-need-help-locating-your-computer-name-00384381-8aa9-4398-b81b-475f09fed618). Specifying a Machine Name means that the Identity can only be used on a machine that has a matching name. NOTE: Use "Device Name" for the Machine Name from Windows Settings. Using the "Full Device Name" will result in a Cloud Licensing error.
- Optional: Assign the public IP address of the network to the IP Address column (https://checkip.amazonaws.com/). Specifying an IP address indicates that the Identity can only be used on a matching network.
- Optional: Assign the user of the Identity to the User column. Only other users who have registered the serial number can be added.
- Open E-Studio, accept the End User License Agreement (EULA), and view the Registration prompt.
- Click OK (User, Institution and Serial Number will already be entered because the values were specified during installation). If licensed correctly, E-Studio shall open with full capabilities. In the event a licensing error occurred, please view LICENSE: E-Prime 3.0 License Violation and Grace Period dialogs [23677].
The image below shows an example of the PST License Portal for multiple machines in a lab:
* Only accept ownership of the license when certain you are the Cloud License owner. Ownership may be transferred when the wrong owner is established.
NOTE: If the Registration prompt displays an error message, ensure the machine name and IP Address if applicable is correct.
Entering an E-Prime Access Key during Registration
Access Keys are an alternative to entering an Identity or specifying the machine name as listed above. An Access Key allows the machine to be automatically assigned a new Identity in the License Portal and will automatically populate the Machine Name to match the name of the machine being licensed.
NOTE: Implementation of Access Keys is ongoing. Please contact PST to obtain an Access Key.
- Obtain the Cloud License serial number. The serial number is emailed to the person who purchased the Cloud License.
- Register on the PST Support site (INFO: How to Register for Support and Access Downloads [27523]).
- Create a support ticket to obtain an Access Key to use.
- Distribute the Access Key and E-Prime installation .exe to all users who will be using E-Prime.
Access Key User steps (after they have the Access Key and installation .exe):
- Install E-Prime on all of the machines that are going to run E-Studio. Enter User and Institution information during the installer.
- Open E-Studio, accept the End User License Agreement (EULA), and view the Registration prompt.
- Click the "I have an Access Key" button. Enter the Access Key and click OK. On the Registration dialog, the Serial Number will be filled in due to the Access Key.
- Click OK on the Registration dialog. If licensed correctly, E-Studio shall open with full capabilities. In the event a licensing error occurred, please view LICENSE: E-Prime 3.0 License Violation and Grace Period dialogs [23677].
Access Key / License Owner steps (after the Access Key is used):
- Open a web browser and login to the PST License Portal - mylicense.pstnet.com.
- Access the Cloud License serial number.
- Navigate to the Identity tab. Verify that a new Identity is created for the user who just applied the access key. A unique Identity is created in the License Portal for use with the Access Key. Additionally, confirm that a Machine Name is associated with the Identity.
