Detail
E-Prime users planning on using Celeritas Response Devices (BRU and/or Joystick) in their experiment are encouraged to use them in Celeritas mode instead of HID mode. This requires that Celeritas Software for E-Prime is installed, the Celeritas Device is added as an E-Prime Device, and Celeritas Device Properties is used in E-Studio to configure the Celeritas Device. Celeritas mode offers tighter integration with E-Prime than does HID mode.
However, this presents a limitation when attempting to test the experiment away from the lab where Celeritas hardware may not be available. If this scenario applies to you, you should add the Celeritas device to the experiment normally. Then in the Celeritas device settings, unlock the BRU, and set it to a Keyboard.
NOTE: The Celeritas Device properties include a separate "Emulate Device" option for the left response unit, the right response unit, and the trigger input. Set all three in order to fully Emulate the Keyboard.
When designing your experiment, you need to use the Keyboard input mask instead of Celeritas. This runs in Celeritas mode but emulates the Keyboard device.
NOTE: This can be done with the Joystick BRU and Joystick device if you have a Joystick on your test machine.
To run on your test machine without Celeritas, you still need the Celeritas Software for E-Prime installed. In E-Prime 2.0, you also need to temporarily disable the Celeritas Device. To do so, open up your experiment, navigate to the Experiment Object Property Pages, select the Devices tab, and uncheck the Celeritas device.
This enables you to run on a machine without the Celeritas hardware in E-Prime 2.0. In E-Prime 3.0, you only need to set your Celeritas response units to emulate the Keyboard, and you can always keep the Celeritas Device checked, even when you run without a physical Celeritas connection.
NOTE: If transferring an E-Prime 2.0 experiment back to the machine with Celeritas, make sure to check the Celeritas device to enable it. Failure to do so results in Celeritas running in HID mode.
