AV: Adjusting DirectSound (DirectX) Hardware Acceleration can eliminate sound popping [17537]

"The SoundOut playback is choppy, stops playing, and/or is popping!" These complaints primarily occur on Windows XP machines. If using a Windows Vista machine (or beyond), at least E-Prime version 2.0.10.182 or later should be used. Additionally, the Sound API should be changed to CoreAudio to avoid this issue.
 

Complete the following steps to lower hardware acceleration via the Control Panel.

1. From the Control Panel select Sounds and Audio Devices
2. On the Audio tab, click the Advanced button under Sound Playback
3. On the Performance tab, change the Hardware Acceleration. That is, try moving the acceleration a few notches to the left.

NOTE: CoreAudio is the new default Sound API in E-Prime 3.0.
