Detail
As technology continues to improve, so does E-Prime. These improvements mean that the hardware requirements for new versions of E-Prime may change as well. Changes to the minimum and recommended hardware requirements are sometimes necessary in order to enable new features in E-Prime, including support for the latest hardware devices, and to provide compatibility with the most-recent operating systems.
Therefore, different versions of E-Prime are likely to have different hardware requirements. For example, the minimum recommended processor for E-Prime 2.0 Production Release (2.0.10.242) is a Pentium 4 Processor running at 1.8 GHz or higher; for E-Prime 2.0 SP1 (2.0.10.353), the minimum recommended processor is a Pentium Dual-Core or Multi-Core Processor, 2GHz or higher.
Some users become concerned when they see a change in the recommended system configuration for a new release of E-Prime. Users sometimes believe that the hardware configuration requirements specified for the latest E-Prime version apply retroactively to the hardware requirements for prior versions. This is not the case. Each legacy version of E-Prime has its own hardware requirements; the requirements for the latest version of E-Prime do not apply to previous versions. To continue with the Production Release example: even though the later SP1 version has a different recommended minimum processor, the minimum requirements for the earlier Production Release did not change when SP1 was released. The Production Release is still compatible with a Pentium 4 Processor running at 1.8 GHz.
Users also often wonder if a previously-released version of E-Prime is compatible with a newer operating system. You should NOT assume that a previously released E-Prime version is compatible with operating systems that become available after the E-Prime release. PST performs, on an on-going basis, timing and other compatibility tests between E-Prime versions and operating systems. These test results are available for public viewing (see RELEASE INFO: Operating system (Windows 11, 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, and XP) support in E-Prime [18652]). If you have questions or concerns about a particular combination of E-Prime and operating system versions, contact PST Technical Support (support@pstnet.com).
