Detail
What is an E-Prime edition?
E-Prime 2.0 introduced two different editions: Standard and Professional. Both are fully functioning versions of E-Prime; with Professional offering enhanced functionality.
What edition of E-Prime am I using?
The E-Prime edition is identified in the Programs and Features Tool in the Windows Control Panel. When the Professional Edition is installed, "E-Prime Professional ()" appears in the name column; when the Standard Edition is installed, "E-Prime ()" appears. For example, the Professional edition of E-Prime Service Pack 1 version 2.0.10.353 appears in the Programs and Features tool as follows:
Additionally, the E-Studio application identifies near the experiment name in the title bar whether Professional or Standard is used.
How can I tell if my .es2 file is a Standard or Professional edition experiment?
To determine if an .es2 file is a Professional or Standard edition E-Prime file, open it in E-Studio.
Standard users can only open Standard experiment files. If an attempt is made to open a Professional edition experiment in the Standard edition of E-Prime, an error message appears.
Professional users can open either Professional or Standard edition files. When an .es2 file is opened in E-Studio, the word "STANDARD" or "PROFESSIONAL" appears next to the root Experiment Object name. This indicates if the .es2 file is in the Standard or Professional edition.

Can I edit a Standard edition experiment in the Professional edition?
A Standard edition experiment can be loaded into the Professional edition. When a Standard edition .es2 file is opened in E-Studio, the Professional conversation prompt appears:
There is the option to either maintain the experiment in the Standard file format or convert the .es2 file the Professional version.
NOTE: Once a Professional experiment file is converted, it cannot go back to the Standard file format. Settings exist under Tools > Options to adjust the settings in the E-Prime 2.0 Professional Conversion section.
Can I edit a Professional edition experiment in the Standard edition?
No, an experiment in the Professional edition file format cannot be loaded into the Standard edition.
Can I save Professional edition experiment into a Standard edition .es2 file?
No, an experiment that is in the Professional edition file format cannot be saved as a Standard edition file from within E-Studio. However, a Professional edition user can make a Standard edition version of the experiment by opening two E-Prime sessions and cutting and pasting the E-Objects. The Experiment Object Properties must also be transferred. To check these, double click on the purple Experiment Object at the top of the Structure window and review the settings in each tab. Also, check for any User Script by going to View, selecting Script, and clicking on the User tab. If there is script is present and it is not copied to the Standard experiment, the Standard experiment will not compile. Always run the Standard experiment at least once to ensure that it works.
