This article applies to:
E-Prime 3.0
E-Prime 2.0
E-Prime 1.x
This issue has been partially corrected in E-Prime 3.0.3.80a.
Symptoms
Either installing or running E-Prime experiments on a Windows 10 (Version 2004, 20H2, 21H1, 21H2) or Windows 11 machine fails.
Detail
As stated in LICENSE: Downloading the latest HASP driver [27703], E-Prime requires the Sentinel HASP drivers for your license to work properly. However, having an older version or installing an older version of the HASP driver causes Windows 10 (Version 2004, 20H2, 21H1, and 21H2) and Windows 11 to fail. The following issues have been observed:
- E-Prime is installed on a machine that is not Windows 10 (Version 2004, 20H2, 21H1 or 21H2). The HASP driver is not the most current driver. Attempting to update to Windows 10 (Version 2004, 20H2, 21H1, and 21H2) fails.
- E-Prime is not installed on a machine. The machine is upgraded to Windows 10 (Version 2004 Build < 19041.423) or Windows 11. E-Prime installation is started with an older HASP driver and fails. This may be followed by the Window's error known as the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD):
- E-Prime is not installed on a machine. The machine is upgraded to Windows 10 (Version 2004 Build >= 19041.423, 20H2, 21H1, or 21H2) or Windows 11. E-Prime installation is started with an older HASP driver and fails. This may be accompanied by the Window's compatibility error:
NOTE: This error occurs when using E-Prime 3.0.3.80a on machine running Windows 10 (Version 2004 Build >= 19041.423, 20H2, 21H1, or 21H2) and Windows 11. You may dismiss the error and use E-Prime normally.
Solution
This issue has been partially fixed in E-Prime 3.0.3.80a. It is "partially fixed" because the Window's compatiblity may be shown. However, E-Prime can still be used normally when the error is dismissed. We recommend upgrading to E-Prime 3.0.3.80a or later.
This build of E-Prime contains a check for HASP driver version 7.103 during installation. Additionally, the Support folder contains the updated versions (7.103) of haspdinst.exe, HaspUserSetup.exe, and haspd_windows.dll.
NOTE: E-Prime 3.0.3.80a is packed with HASP driver version 7.103, the first HASP driver known to resolve this issue. Later versions of the HASP driver may exist. Follow the link to Sentinel / Thales website listed in the workaround to obtain the latest driver. You may need to install this after the E-Prime 3.0.3.80a installation completes.
Workaround
These workarounds are intended only for those users who are unable to update to the E-Prime version that contains the bug fix.
Download and run the latest Sentinel HASP/LDK Windows GUI Run-time Installer from the Sentinel / Thales website either before running the Windows 10 (version 2004, 20H2, 21H1, or 21H2) or Windows 11 installation or before running the E-Prime 3.0 installation on a Windows 10 (version 2004, 20H2, 21H1, or 21H2) or Windows 11 machine.
For a new E-Prime 2.0 installation, first see ERROR: HASP Driver Version 8.31 or later causes E-Prime 2.0 installation error 2753 [39149].
NOTE: A reboot of the machine may be required after installation and is recommended after any installation affecting the HASP driver. For best results, unplug the USB License Key during installation.
