The Theme editor provides an interface for adding, removing, or modifying sets of properties, referred to as Themes. Themes are defined by a collection of properties organized on individual tabs focusing on a specific elements within a SlideButton (see E-STUDIO: SlideButton Sub-Object [23598] for a description of individual elements composing a SlideButton, and their associated properties).
SlideButtons may be copied and pasted to SlideState objects in the same experiment, or to an object within another open E-Prime experiment. When pasting a SlideButton from one experiment to another, any Themes that do not already exist in the experiment are also copied. Themes that already exist in the experiment to which the SlideButton is being copied are not altered by the copy operation.
Parent Theme
By default, elements on a SlideButton are inherited from a parent theme, but may be modified for individual buttons.
It is important to note that modifications to a parent theme will apply to all buttons within the experiment. Properties may also be modified for individual buttons. When modifying properties for a specific SlideButton, modifications will apply ONLY to the specific SlideButton being modified, and will not affect other SlideButton sub-objects within the experiment. If a property is modified for a specific SlideButton, the value for that property will appear in bold font type within the interface, indicating that the value deviates from the value within the parent theme. Literal (i.e., exact) values (e.g., “YES”) appear in black font color. Variable values (i.e., attribute references such as “[ButtonText]”) appear in blue font color.
Theme Editor
To access the Theme Editor, click the Theme Editor… button within the SlideButton’s property pages. The Slide Button Theme Editor dialog will be displayed.
The SlideButton Theme Editor provides a listing of available button themes, appearing in alphabetical order, on the left side of the dialog. Selection of a theme in the list will result in the display of that theme’s collection of properties within tabs on the right side of the dialog.
Themes may be modified, added, renamed, or removed.
Modify Theme
To modify a theme, select the theme in the list of available themes to display the associated properties on the right side of the dialog. Select the desired button state within the Circumstance field, and use the tabs to locate and modify the desired properties (e.g., set the BorderWidth to a value greater than 0 on the General tab to display a black border around every button). Note that modifications to a theme are displayed in bold font to identify them as properties that have been modified from the default settings.
Click OK to accept theme modifications and dismiss the Slide Button Theme Editor. Modifications to a theme will automatically be applied to all SlideButton sub-objects within the experiment using that parent theme. Modifications to a theme may be reversed by launching the Theme Editor and selecting “default” for properties that were previously modified.
Add Theme
To add a custom theme, use the Add Theme button on the bottom left of the SlideButton Theme Editor dialog. A new theme will be added to the list of available themes (e.g., Theme1).
The newly added theme may be configured by modifying one or more properties within the collection on the right side of the dialog. Select the parent theme on which to base the new theme from the Parent Theme dropdown menu. Then, configure the Style and Feedback properties for each SlideButton Circumstance in the new theme, as desired, by modifying properties per tab (e.g., change the color of the background by modifying the File field on the Background tab, or change the alignment of text using the AlignX and AlignY fields on the Text tab). Click OK to accept the theme settings. The new theme may be renamed from the default name using the Rename Theme button.
Rename Theme
To rename a theme, select the theme in the list of available themes, and click the Rename Theme button to enter edit mode. Enter a new name for the theme, and Enter to accept the new name.
Note that the Base parent themes provided with the system (i.e., BaseButton, BaseChoice, BaseSlider) may not be renamed.
Remove Theme
To remove/delete a theme from the list, select the theme in the list of available themes, and click the Remove Theme button. A dialog will be displayed requesting confirmation of removal of the theme.
If confirmed, the theme is removed, and no longer appears in the list of available themes. The Base parent themes provided with the system (i.e., BaseButton, BaseChoice, BaseSlider) may not be removed.
