E-Prime 3.0
E-Prime 2.0
This bug has been corrected in E-Prime 3.0.3.60 (Update 1).
Symptoms
When attempting to run an experiment under Windows 10 Creators Update, an "Unable to obtain a valid refresh rate" error occurs.
Detail
Windows 10 Creators Update (version 1703, build 10.0.15063.0 or later) interrupts E-Prime’s ability to detect the refresh rate due to a bug that Microsoft introduced. This interruption results in a runtime error stating “Unable to obtain a valid refresh rate”. Due to several changes to the Windows Display Manager that were introduced in Windows 10 Creators Update, Windows occasionally enters a state where it does not believe that a valid monitor is attached to the computer. Microsoft has verified that this state is caused by the changes that were made to the Windows Display Manager. Subsequently, E-Prime cannot identify a valid refresh rate, which causes the error message to be displayed when attempting to run an experiment under Windows 10 Creators Update.
Solution
Upgrade to E-Prime 3.0.3.60 or later.
Workaround
These workarounds are intended only for those users who are unable to update to the E-Prime version that contains the bug fix.
1) Option 1: Implement the workaround described in ERROR: Windows 10 Creators Update interrupts E-Prime’s ability to detect refresh rate [25326].
2) Option 2 : Update the operating system to Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
