Detail
While communicating with external programs in E-Prime through the Socket Device, communication issues occasionally occur that are beyond E-Prime’s control. One such issue is that E-Prime is not allowed to communicate through the Socket Device because it does not have Windows Firewall permissions. Windows Firewall is purposely set to be restrictive to keep both your computer and its data secure. Because of Windows Firewall’s restrictive nature, Windows may have E-Prime’s access through its Firewall blocked by default. If you encounter an error in either sending or receiving signals through E-Prime’s Socket Device, allow E-Prime access through Windows Firewall to solve the issue.
To allow E-Prime through the Windows Firewall you need to access your computer’s Control Panel and click on the “System and Security” page. Here, you should see a listing for Windows Firewall.
NOTE: The exact method to access the Windows Firewall page may vary depending on your Operating System.
Once you have navigated to the Windows Firewall page, a link appears that states “Allow an app through Windows Firewall” (exact wording may change depending on Operating System). Click on this property and a page appears that lists every program installed on the computer and whether it has access through Windows Firewall. To allow E-Prime through, find the E-Prime listing, and click on the “Change Settings” button. Ensure that the “Domain,” “Private,” and “Public” properties are checked to allow E-Prime though the Windows Firewall.
If Windows Firewall does not list E-Prime as one of the available programs, click on the “Allow another app…” button. Browse to find E-Prime and add it to the listing of programs that are allowed through the Windows Firewall.
For more information, view the Microsoft website's listing for Windows Firewall.
