Preparing the Environment
It is ideal to use CAMCI-Research in a well-lit, noise free, private space that includes a stable desk or table to support the computer running CAMCI-Research. It is also recommended to have a comfortable chair for the subject and an electrical outlet.
 
An optimal testing environment is also one in which the operation of CAMCI-Research itself does not affect others around who are not directly participating or where others around do not affect a subject’s performance on CAMCI-Research.
 
Before the subject arrives, set up the computer and prepare the testing environment. Ensure that there are no calendars, or other objects the subject could use to check the date, such as clocks or phones.  Also, remove anywriting implements from the room that subjects could potentially use to assist with responses (e.g., writing down words to remember).
 
Preparing the Subject
Inform the subject that they will be asked to do a variety of tasks and how long the testing will last. Additionally, state to the subject that they will be given the opportunity to rest between tasks throughout the test (i.e., Transition Screens)
 
Explain to the subjects that they will be responding to questions and making selections in the tasks by responding to the screen with the desired method of input (i.e., finger, mouse, etc.). Encourage subjects to complete the tasks to their best ability in order to obtain an accurate assessment of cognitive function. Lack of effort or intentionally responding falsely could lead to misrepresentation of the subject’s cognitive status.
 
Instruct the subject to wear glasses or hearing aids if required. These should be worn during volume adjustment and throughout the test session.
 
Examiner Preparation
The Pre-Battery Reminders and/or the Post-Battery Follow-Up screens may be used to remind examiners to perform certain actions prior to or following a test session. They can be used to collect additional information from the subject prior to dismissal.
 
When testing begins, evaluate the correct functioning of the system and the subject’s ability to use the input device.  Observe the subject during the beginning of a test session to ensure that the software and input device are functioning properly.
