E-Prime 3.0
E-Prime 2.0
Detail
NOTE: We recommend using a wired connection as described in this article when running E-Prime in a two-computer setup even if the two computers support wireless communication. A wired ethernet connection avoids possible timing delays and connection issues that may occur with a wireless connection.
When using other applications simultaneously with E-Prime, a two-machine configuration is usually preferred over a one-machine setup that runs both E-Prime and the other application on the same computer. Using two computers prevents potential conflicts between E-Run and the other application (see TIMING: Operating System Challenges [22848] and TIMING: Operating System Solutions [22856] for details).
When connecting two computers via Ethernet, we recommend the following:
- Connect the machines on a closed network. This means that both machines are disconnected from the Internet and only connected to each other by a direct ethernet connection, a router, a hub, or a switch.
- Disable the firewall if the machines have issues communicating with each other. Alternatively, allow a specific application through the firewall, and open the appropriate, unoccupied ports. We recommend doing this if the machines are secure and not connected to the Internet.
- Disable all other network adapters in the Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections section besides the relevant ethernet adapter. If you suspect a network traffic routing issue, PST highly-recommends the use of packet sniffers such as Wireshark (http://www.wireshark.org/) for debugging network communications.
- Ensure the IP Address does not change by setting a static IP Address. Make sure they are on the same subnet (e.g., Machine 1 has IP 10.10.10.42 with 255.255.255.0 subnet mask and Machine 2 has IP 10.10.10.43 with 255.255.255.0 subnet mask).
- Add in a NTP server to your closed network to synchronize the clocks between the two machines.
NOTE: Please contact your institution's IT department for more information on network communication and configurations.
