INFO: Using a SlideMovie sub-object to show proper positioning of videos in Data Viewer [34421]

In Data Viewer, the video used in SlideMovie sub-objects and MovieDisplays is positioned in the upper-left corner of the frame. The SlideMovie sub-object is more flexible than the MovieDisplay as you can define a frame inside of a Slide (e.g., if your video is not full screen). The frame is defined in the SlideMovie sub-object Property Pages > Frame tab.

Using ELMovieRT as an example, the Display resolution is set to 1024x768. The Slide Frame is set to 100% for both the Height and Width properties. Therefore, the SlideMovie Frame is set to use the entire 1024x768 resolution. Inside the Slide, the SlideMovie Frame is set to a Width of 60% and a Height of 75%. This provides a Frame of 614x576. These are the exact dimensions the video files is displayed. When a trial with this video is played back in Data Viewer, the videos appear in the proper location since the Frame and videos match.

In the example above, if the SlideMovie Frame is adjusted to be 100% for Height and Width (with Stretch set to "yes"), then the video is presented full screen. However, in Data Viewer the video is displayed in the upper-left at its normal resolution.

At this time, Stretch and Alignment settings of the MovieDisplay and SlideMovie are not supported in EyeLink experiments. If video positioning during playback in Data Viewer is important to your paradigm, we recommend properly sizing the Frame properties to the size of your videos. Additionally, you may use third-party tools such as FFmpeg (www.ffmpeg.org) to resize and encode your videos.
