Detail
To record the release of an input device button, the Collection Mode of the Keyboard, SRBox, Chronos, or Mouse Device must be edited to allow it to collect both Presses and Releases or Releases Only (Presses Only is the default setting). You can edit an input device in E-Prime by opening the Experiment Object's properties pages (i.e., double-clicking the Experiment Object will open it's properties), clicking the Devices tab, selecting the appropriate Device, and clicking Edit.
Once a Device is configured to collect button releases, you must edit the Allowable field of the object collecting the response. For example, enter the following into the Allowable field:
{key}{-key}
In the example above, "key" is the actual key you wish the participant to press ({key}) and release ({-key}). If collecting key presses and releases on the same object, you need to specify all possible responses of each type (i.e., the press AND the release of the same button). Also, make sure that, if collecting both types of responses, you have enabled the object collecting the response to collect more than one response; otherwise, only the button press will be recorded. You can configure an object to collect more than one response by setting the MaxCount property to a value > 1. The Max Count property can be found by navigating to the Duration/Input tab of an object and clicking the Advanced button.
Please note that a button release cannot be recorded until the key is first pressed. For more information regarding key presses and releases, please refer to the E-Prime Command Reference (https://pstnet.com/ecr).
