Symptoms
Users receive a dialog indicating they have violated the license agreement. This dialog appears when the hardware key is not attached or not recognized. When this happens on some Dell machines, it is due to the hardware key not being recognized. Users have reported that the key may be recognized the first time they open E-Studio after rebooting, but fail after subsequent load attempts. The reason is due to newer Dell machines not meeting standard hardware specifications for the parallel port when configured in PS/2 (bi-directional) mode.
Solution
To solve the problem on affected Dell machines, change the parallel port mode in the machines BIOS configuration from PS/2 to AT.
This will provide the parallel port with the proper voltage/current to recognize the hardware key.
An optional solution is to opt for a USB hardware key replacement.
