A shortcut on the desktop allows the user to launch an experiment without having to go to its permanent location and load it into E-Run (i.e., navigate to either the E-Run or E-Studio applications and then load the desired .ebs3 or .es3 file). Shortcuts are especially useful for experiments that are used frequently.
The first step in configuring an experiment shortcut is to open Windows Explorer. Next, navigate to the subfolder containing the .ebs3 file which you intend to make the shortcut. Right-click the .ebs3 and select the “Create Shortcut” option:
Either you will see a prompt to have the shortcut file automatically sent to the Desktop folder, or the shortcut appears in the same subfolder, requiring you to manually cut and paste the shortcut to the Desktop. If you encounter issues launching the experiment via the shortcut, right click the shortcut, select Properties and confirm that the shortcut .lnk file is pointing to E-Run.exe. If the shortcut is not pointing to E-Run.exe, click the "Change..." button next within the "Open With" field in the shortcut Properties window, and navigate to the correct E-Run.exe instance (i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\PST\E-Prime 3.0\Program by default):
In addition to providing a convenient location to launch the experiment, a Desktop shortcut allows you to confine the data files to the original subfolder containing the .ebs3 file and prevent unnecessary clutter on the Desktop. To rename the shortcut, right-click and select the “Rename” command from the context menu.
To launch the experiment from the shortcut, either double click the shortcut, or highlight it and press Enter. This will automatically open E-Run, load the .ebs3 file, compile, and run the experiment.
