An E-Prime License provides access to a suite of several software applications (see the "Suite Installation - Complete Option" in INSTALL: E-Prime and Runtime Installation Details [22671]), including E-Studio for experiment development. The E-Studio application is copy protected; this copy protection enforces the terms of the license and limits the number of experiment development machines that can run the software to the number of licenses that have been purchased. A Runtime License provides access to the E-Run application to run an experiment and create a data file. The E-Run application is not copy protected.
E-Prime USB and Cloud Licenses
E-Prime versions 1.x, 2.0 and 3.0 through Update 2 are licensed with USB-based copy protection. E-Prime 3 Update 3 introduces a new license option, Cloud-based copy protection, in addition to the USB-based copy protection.
USB License Key
Users who purchase a USB License receive a USB License Key and a serial number. Both the key and the serial number are required to perform the Registration and Validation process, which must be completed before the software can be used. The USB License Key must be attached to E-Prime computer to develop experiments.
Availability: USB Licenses are offered for every major version of E-Prime (i.e., 1.x, 2.0, and 3.0).
Cloud License
Users who purchase a Cloud License receive a serial number. The serial number and an internet connection are required to perform the Registration and Validation process. An Identity ID may also be required for Registration and Validation and is obtained from the License Portal (mylicense.pstnet.com.). The E-Prime computer requires an internet connection in order to develop experiments. Please refer to the following articles for more information on configuring a Cloud License:
Availability: Cloud licenses have been introduced with E-Prime 3.0 Update 3.
Types of Licenses
There are multiple types of licenses that are available as either USB or Cloud Licenses:
Single User License
A Single User License enables users to develop experiments on one computer at a time. Owners of a Single User License can install E-Prime on multiple machines but are restricted to using the E-Studio and E-DataAid applications on one computer at a time to develop experiments and analyze data. Additional Single User Licenses may be purchased if more than one concurrent development station is needed.
Group License
A Group License enables multiple users with a licensed department to develop experiments concurrently up to maximum number of concurrent users that are covered by the Group License. A Group License can be expanded to enable additional concurrent users by purchasing additional coverage from PST.
Please refer to the following articles for more information:

Other License Types
Runtime License
The Runtime application (E-Run) requires a valid serial number for Installation and Registration and Validation. The Runtime License does not require either a USB License Key or Cloud License. A Runtime License is required for labs with over 25 machine and enables unlimited data collection on up to 100 machines within a single lab. A Runtime License is also required for each site of a multi-site study.
E-Prime License - Evaluation Mode
An E-Prime license can be placed into Evaluation Mode during Registration and Validation and does not require either a USB License Key or a Cloud License. Evaluation Mode enables users to evaluate E-Prime prior to purchasing. Evaluation Mode has certain restrictions which are discussed in depth in the following article:
NOTE: Please do not attempt to register the Evaluation License serial number on the Support site. The Evaluation Mode serial number cannot be registered.
Duration of Licenses
Licenses are available in two durations: subscription and perpetual.
- Subscription - the license is only available for a defined time period (e.g., 1 year) and must be renewed by the end of the time period for continuing use.
- Perpetual - the license does not have an expiration date and can be used indefinitely.
