Detail
E-Prime introduced a feature that recognizes when smart quotes are included in text that is being copied into an InLine object, and prompts the user to first normalize the smart quotes before pasting the text into E-Studio.
Smart quotes are distinctive, curved quotation marks that are left-handed (used for an opening quotation mark) or right-handed (used for a closing quotation mark). Smart quotes are sometimes called typographic quotes because they are usually not available from typewriter or computer keyboards. These keyboards use non-smart quotes instead, which are straight or vertical quotation marks. Non-smart quotes are sometimes called 'dumb' or 'normalized' quotation marks. There are smart and normalized versions of both single and double-quote characters.
Quotation marks entered directly from the keyboard onto an InLine object are normalized quotes. However, quotation marks copied from a text editor and pasted into an InLine object may be smart quotes. This can result in experiment generation errors because smart quotes are not supported on InLine objects. When text that contains a smart quote is pasted into an InLine, E-Prime recognizes the smart quotes and prompts the user with the following:

Click on the 'Yes' button to convert the smart quotes to normalized quotes and avoid experiment generation errors.
