I have a experiment that randomly runs through a list of two types of video stimuli: male and female. I'd like to preserve the randomized presentation while also ensuring alternation of gender. If the previous trial was male, the next trial should be female.
So far, the only way I've thought to realize this is to include multiple slides in my procedure that selected different genders. I could then use a counterbalancing user input on startup to assign the first slide as male or female. I'd like to avoid this solution, however, because these videos are just one slide of many in a complicated procedure that includes multiple response inputs. My instinct is that a significantly longer procedure would make my outputs more difficult to read and lead to instability in the script at runtime.
Are there ways to accomplish this with InLine scripts? Or to limit permutation orders to those that satisfy the alternation constraint?
Thanks for any help you can offer,
