This article applies to:
E-Prime has two types of licensing. The first and most common type is a Single User License. The Single User License requires a white hardware key to be connected to the computer in order to open E-Studio. The other type of license is the Network License. The Network license is a single, blue hardware key. This is connected to a computer that acts as a server computer to which all of the other computers in your lab get their licensing.
NOTE: The server computer cannot take advantage of the Network license, only the client computers can do this.
Setting up a server computer and a Network license for your lab requires a few simple steps which are listed below:
1) Prepare your server computer
The first step is to prepare the server computer. Setting up the server computer requires you to install the latest HASP driver. While we do host HASP drivers on the PST Product Service and Support site, to ensure you are using the latest Sentinel HASP/LDK driver, please install directly from Sentinel’s website here:
2) Set limits for you network
The next step is to decide if your network license attached to your server computer has any limits or should it be allowed access by any computer on the same network at your lab. To do this, first open any browser and type the following as the URL (no internet connection required): localhost:1947. To verify that the key is functioning as expected, click on the Sentinel Keys link under the Options heading on the left-hand side of the page. You should see your Network License listed here.
Once you have verified that the Network License is listed under the Sentinel Keys link, click on the Configuration link under the Options tab. In the Configuration window, click on the Access from Remote Clients tab. This tab contains two very useful options. The first one is the Allow Access from Remote Clients checkbox. Please ensure that this checkbox is checked. The other important setting is the Access Restrictions section.
This section allows you to set up limits for who can have access to this license. Under this listing, you can input specific IP addresses, a range of IP address, or input part of an IP address with a wildcard character; for more information on the limits of this field, click on the Help button in the bottom, right-hand corner of the window.
3) Prepare your client computers
Each of the client computers needs to be set up to accept the license being broadcast by the Network computer. To do this, simply install the HASP driver provided in step #1 on your client computers. This will allow the license that is being broadcast across the network to be used on the client computers.
If the client does not see the Server key listed in localhost:1947, navigate to the Configuration page on the left. Then select Access to Remote License Managers and enable the "Aggressive Search for Remote Licenses". If you are still unable to find the server, you may specify the IP Address of the server or the machine name in the Remote License Search Parameters. For more information, please select Help on the left > Configuration > Configuring Access to Remote License Managers.
NOTE: The Sentinel License Manager server opens socket 1947 for listening (both for UDP and TCP packets). If you continue to experience issues, please make sure that your firewall does not block this port on both the Server and Client machines.
