This bug has been fixed in E-Prime 1.1.
Unchecking a device in the Experiment Object is intended to essentially remove the device from the experiment and not actually open the device.
When this setting is unchecked, the expected behavior is to not generate, thus enable, any input mask objects in the Duration/Input property page of any object. In E-Prime 1.0, this does not occur and input mask code is generated. The experiment runs as expected, but the "disabled" input mask arms itself, although no responses are collected.
Update to E-Prime 1.1 or later.
