E-Prime 1.2 introduces the ability for E-Prime to check the web for software updates. When an update becomes available, E-Prime will prompt the user that an update is available and the user can then choose to download the update. Upon first loading E-Studio after installing E-Prime, AutoUpdate will prompt to enable E-Prime AutoUpdate with a default value to check every seven days. E-Prime AutoUpdate only checks if the "routinely check for updates" option is selected. E-Prime AutoUpdate only checks when E-Studio starts and does not execute during machine startup nor consume any resources in the System Tray or when E-Studio is not in use.
Upon first loading E-Studio after installing E-Prime, AutoUpdate will prompt to enable E-Prime AutoUpdate with a default value to check every seven days.
You can change the settings of E-Prime AutoUpdate at any time from the Tools > Options menu in E-Studio.
The dialog indicates the next date that E-Prime AutoUpdate will check the web. There is also a button to have E-Studio perform the check the next time it starts.
When an update becomes available, the dialog prompt will inform the user of information such as the current version installed, the update version available, the importance of the update (Critical, Recommended, or Optional), the size and date of the download, and a link for more specific information about what is in the update.
When E-Prime AutoUpdate checks for update information, a dialog will indicate the status information. On most machines, the querying to the web site will take under a minute to process.
For more information about what is sent to the E-Prime AutoUpdate web servers, please see INFO: Information sent when E-Prime AutoUpdate queries for new versions of E-Prime
Note to System Administrators
E-Prime AutoUpdates ettings are configured in the Windows Registry and are specific to the user logged into the system. E-Prime AutoUpdate can be configured so that the settings modified affect every user who logs into the machine, and can also be configured so that end users cannot edit their values. Please contact PST Technical Support for more information on configuring E-Prime AutoUpdate for global machine access instead of per-user configuration.
