The Chronos Audio In Sample experiment presents a fixation, then displays a stimulus and records the participant's vocal response to the stimulus. In one block of trials, the participant is prompted to read aloud the word on the screen. In the other block of trials, the participant is given one minute to say as many words as they can think of that fall within a given category. The "Term" trials use the normal stop mode, which means that the end of the recording occurs at the end of the associated stimulus. The "Category" trials use the offset stop mode, which means that the end of the recording occurs when microphone input drops below the threshold for a specified period of time (i.e., when the participant stops speaking).
