Welcome

In the summer of 2006, the E-Prime Development Team released E-Prime 2.0 Alpha versions to select sites for initial evaluation.  In early October 2006, a larger set of end users registered for E-Prime Web Support will be notified for the ability to download the BETA version.  The initial versions of the BETA will be limited to a subset of users.  Please continue to check the E-Prime 2.0 BETA pages in E-Prime Web Support for status on your E-Prime 2.0 BETA eligibility.  For more welcome information please visit the E-Prime 2.0 welcome page via the Help/Web menu in E-Studio 2.0 or at http://www.pstnet.com/products/e-prime/welcome/welcome2.asp

How can I get the E-Prime 2.0 BETA?

1) If you are not a registered E-Prime Web Support end user, then please do so now by clicking http://www.pstnet.com/e-prime/support/register.  You will be notified via e-mail when the E-Prime 2.0 BETA is available for your account.

2) Ensure the "Notify me when new releases, patches, or bug fixes are made available" is set to Yes (default) in your "User Info" section of the E-Prime Web Support site.

3) Please visit the E-Prime 2.0 BETA section of E-Prime Web Support.

http://www.pstnet.com/e-prime/support/ep2beta.asp

4) Early E-Prime 2.0 Alpha/Beta versions will be made available first to the Industrial Partners of PST and to a select set of sites chosen by PST.  If you have not be contacted via e-mail, then you are not currently eligible.  PST is limiting the number of participants during the early preview stages to avoid overburdening of servers, staff, and to ensure stability.  All registered users of E-Prime Web Support are scheduled to be become eligible for the E-Prime 2.0 BETA by the end of 2006.

5) If you have not received a “Welcome” e-mail indicating your eligibility for the E-Prime 2.0 BETA, you have not been selected to date.  Your status will be reflected in the E-Prime 2.0 BETA section of E-Prime Web Support.

How many BETA versions will there be?

There will only be one BETA cycle for E-Prime 2.0.  However, unlike the 1.x BETA process where there were a handful of major BETA versions (i.e. BETA1, BETA2, etc), the E-Prime 2.0 BETA will be an ongoing series of updates.  E-Prime introduced the ability to be notified when an update is available.  You can determine that you have the latest build by viewing the version number in the about box.  Updates are planned to occur every 2 to 4 weeks.

What about timing for the E-Prime 2.0 BETA?

Although preliminary timing tests with E-Prime 2.0 Preview versions with the BBTK have resulted in expected timing values, thorough and formal timing results will not occur until later stages and final release of the E-Prime 2.0 system.  Early versions of the E-Prime 2.0 BETA will notice significant delays when presenting movies.  These delays will be logged accordingly via the FirstFrameTime available logging value.  Subsequent releases of the E-Prime BETA will focus on movie playback timing.  Because of the significant changes required to perform accurate movie playback, the display subsystem has not been modified in the initial releases of the E-Prime 2.0 BETA to ensure stability.   Please keep posted to http://www.pstnet.com/products/e-prime/timing for both E-Prime 1.x and E-Prime 2.0 timing information.

How can I determine what changes occur in each version?

How can I determine what Features are yet to be introduced in E-Prime 2.0 BETA?

Keep posted to the forum.  PST cannot promise certain features to ensure a timely release.  If a feature that you have been waiting for is not included in the BETA, make it known and then PST will evaluate the appropriate priorities to complete requested features.

Questions and Support

If you have any questions during the E-Prime 2.0 BETA cycle, please submit them via the PST User Forum at http://support.pstnet.com/forum.  To promote information sharing amongst all end users, please note that E-Prime Web Support is not handling any E-Prime 2.0 BETA support requests.

Psychology Software Tools recently launched the PST User Forum to offer a community style environment where end users can share their experiences and information about E-Prime and other PST products.  Registration into the PST User Forum is available no charge and requires and e-mail and password which will permit a single login amongst all other PST services (PST User Forum, Web Support, PsychMate, etc.).

System Requirements

1 GHZ CPU

500 MB Ram

Windows 2000/XP

Sound Blaster Live!, Audigy, Audigy2 PCI or PCMCIA

PST strongly recommends 2GHZ or higher CPU with 1GB of memory and a PCI Express or 8X AGP 128MB+ video adapter for experiments that call for movie presentation.

Activation

During the E-Prime 2.0 BETA cycle, Internet Activation is required.  The activation requires the Internet to register the machine for 30 days.  Upon activation expiration, Internet Activation is required again.  The activation may require upgrading to the most recent BETA version to continue.  Please see INFO: Internet activation required for E-Prime 2.0 BETA - http://www.pstnet.com/e-prime/support/kb.asp?TopicID=2995 for more information.  You may activate the E-Prime 2.0 BETA on up to five (5) machines per individual e-mail/password account.

How do members of my lab become eligible for the E-Prime 2.0 BETA?

I am part of the E-Prime 2.0 BETA, but my entire lab wants to preview E-Prime 2.0.  Can other members of the lab be granted access to the E-Prime 2.0 BETA?  Other members of your lab are encouraged to log into web support and view the “E-Prime 2.0 BETA” area where they can sign up for the BETA.  The initial versions of the BETA are only available to a limited number of users.

Can I install E-Prime 1.x and E-Prime 2.0 on the same machine?

Yes.  To continue with your current research studies and development, E-Prime 1.x and E-Prime 2.0 can exist “side by side” on the same computer.

Please inform us if you find any incompatibilities with having E-Prime 1.x and E-Prime 2.x on the same machine.

For more information, please see http://www.pstnet.com/e-prime/support/kb.asp?TopicID=3001 - FEATURE: E-Prime 2.0 can exist on the same machine as E-Prime 1.x (side by side)

Other things I should know about the E-Prime 2.0 BETA

1) The E-Prime BETA versions require E-Prime Web Support registration credentials.  You must be an existing E-Prime 1.x user to be able to create an account.

2) Licensing for the E-Prime BETA is accomplished via the Internet.  http://www.pstnet.com/e-prime/support/kb.asp?TopicID=2995.  Upon formal release of E-Prime 2.0, you will receive an updated hardware key upon the formal release of E-Prime 2.0.

3) You may activate the BETA on up to five machines.

4) E-Prime 2.0 BETA is available only for Windows 2000 and Windows XP.  Windows 9x support has been suspended.  The runtime will not be available for Windows 2000 in early versions of the BETA.

5) PST reserves the right to grant/deny access to the BETA to any user/institution at any time w/o notification.

Thank You,

E-Prime Development and Support Teams
