| I am completely new to e-prime but am considering using it for a memory task. The task would require the subject to type a word in reponse to a cue. Is this possible in e-prime?

Yes it is possible.
In the property pages, under the input/duration tab, you can add an input device. In the advanced properties for the input devices, under the echo tab, you can add a display. This provides a box onscreen where the user input will be shown.
