I'm looking for a recommendation for a head-mounted microphone to use with the SRbox and a recommendation for a headset (microphone and headphones) to use as well. Thanks

Hi Steve,

Here is the link to the specifications of the microphone shipped with the SRBox: http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/wired_mics/70416d238955564a/index.html

Any handheld or headset microphone that meets the specs listed on that page should work well with the SRBox.

Note that the SRBox is designed only to work with dynamic, non-amplified microphones. Dynamic mics do not require power, but generate their own electrical signal (basically performing the opposite function of a speaker). You should double-check that your mic is not an electret type microphone and therefore not compatible. Most electret microphones require power from the unit they are connecting to (center ring of the stereo connector), and the SRBox does not supply that powered connection. If the microphone is not self-powered, it may function with the SRBox, but we cannot guarantee such functionality or recommend trying it.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Matt,

Thanks for the reply. However, both the headset and head-mounted microphone that we bought (and did not work) meet the specs on the page, at least the frequency response and impedance (i have to admit, I am not sure about the open circuit sensitivity and I am not sure how closely a microphone needs to match this spec). So we could really use a specific recommendation of a make and model that somebody has had success with. Thanks.

Steve

I'm having the same problem trying to find a microphone headset. I took the specifications listed to radio shack, they sold me a headset that they said had all of the specifications, and the microphone still does not work.

Can somebody please recommend a brand or a specific type of mic/headset that would work. I'm not asking for an endorsement; I just want to find something that works. Thank you.

I can confirm that the Stageline HM-30 is compatible.

One caveat with this device is that it is fiddly to configure the device to fit comfortably on participant's heads.

The reason why most headsets will not work with the SRBox is because the majority use condenser elements. Condenser microphones can be made much smaller (and less conspicuous) than dynamics without compromising performance.

The SRBox will only work with a dynamic element.

Thank you so much! After weeks of searching and pestering people, it is wonderful to get a straightforward reply.
