I am getting an error message when trying to run an e-prime program using the SRBox we just got.  The error is error 0x00004a49 "Unable to open the SRBox: 0x00000005".  This runtime error pops up after the participant number is entered, but before anything else in the experiment runs.

We are using e-prime 2.0 and brand new SRboxes.  The SRBox and e-prime program do work on another computer that we have.  Additionally, I used the SRBoxTester on the problem computer and that works too (the lights light up and the button pushes register).  Further, I checked the device driver, and it is installed (just to make sure, we've already reinstalled it once).

Any ideas on what is wrong or what to try next?

I am also interested in the resolution of this problem - any idea about what the potential problem could be here from any other users, or from someone at PST?

Thanks

It appears that PST staff have not tuned in to this Forum since mid February. You might have better luck submitting issues like this directly to PST Web Support at http://support.pstnet.com/e%2Dprime/support/login.asp.

Good luck, and if PST Support gives you the answer then please post back here for the rest of us.

Thanks,

As per this issue, the 2nd part of the error is mainly the key.  0x00000005 means "access denied".  The steps to rememedy this are to ensure the serial port has not other conflict (modem, etc), that the serial port used is the one the srbox is attached, to ensure they are an admin, and to try using KB2621 - INFO: How to use MSCONFIG to troubleshoot machine configuration and reduce background applications.

You can also contact web support and request a utiltiy that can test access to the srbox from outside of E-Prime.
