Welcome

Welcome to the PST User Forum!

This forum is setup to allow the end users of PST products to share information, tips, samples, and ask questions with their peers.

Tips for using the PST User Forum

Things to try prior to asking a question

Search the forum archives.  Others may have already answered a question very similar to yours.  Excessive authoring of posts to topics that have already been covered clutters the forum and decreases its effectiveness.

Search the PST samples.  Though not likely to perform exactly what you are trying to accomplish, the samples provide methods for very commonly used tasks, and intentionally focus only one or two features in each sample.  You may need to review and combine the concepts from several samples when trying to accomplish more difficult tasks.

Search the PST Knowledge Base.  The KB topics include information related to frequently asked questions, new features, bug fixes, and other known issues.

Tips for getting the most out of the forum

Gather information about your question or problem.  The more detail provided, the better others will be able to assist. Right-clicking My Computer and selecting Properties will provide detailed information concerning your computer and the operating system.  In addition, MS Info available in the about box of MS Office applications as well as DXDIAG can also provide information about your machine configuration.

Understand that everyone will only know the background to your problem that you furnish.  Therefore, be verbose, but clear.

Use a descriptive subject line in your post.  Bad Example: "Experiment Crashes".  Good Example:  "Runtime error 'mismatched channels' when using Sound device".  Words like "urgent", "please help", and excessive exclamation points in the subject line do not encourage anyone to help you and are subject to be removed by the Moderators.

Provide information in your question about your machine setup.  Indicating that you have a Dell 8400 P4 2.8 GHZ Windows XP SP2 1GHZ RAM, 100 GB SATA, Radeon 8600 128 MB will provide the information relevant to the problem/question and further add to others later performing a search for an issue.

Indicate if the problem is machine specific or if it can be replicated on additional machines.

List any errors that you are receiving.  The Output Debug window in E-Studio provides copy/paste access to the full error codes and messages.

If the error reports a line number, then include the script from the Full Script window where the error happened since line numbers for generated code will be different depending on what version of E-Studio generated the experiment.

Do not cross post (authoring a question to multiple forum categories).  If a post is not in the appropriate category, a moderator will move the thread to a more applicable one.

When applicable, attach the .es file that describes the problem.

List the steps you have taken to try to fix your problem, so that others can more efficiently help you, and not waste time suggesting steps you have already attempted.

List the Knowledge Base topics reviewed prior to making the post.

List the keywords you used to search for the problem prior to making the post.  Others may indicate what search terms to use to assist others in the future.

List the names of topics you have reviewed prior to making the post.  Others will then know what background to mention or avoid when replying.

If you receive an answer that helps you, acknowledge the response you get.  It will help others who subsequently search the archive to identify a solution to a similar problem.

If you need further clarification, trim and quote the part of the response you need to be explained and ask for additional information.

Remember, this is a user forum, and never be rude or impatient.  Keep your writing professional, technical and courteous at all times.

Policies about using the PST User Forum

User Accounts
User accounts on the PST User Forum share the same information for all PST logins.  Therefore, your personal information, name, password, etc. are shared amongst all PST applications.  For example, changing your password in one place will reflect to your password being changed in the others.  Since these accounts are shared amongst other products, considered personal, and will be used in future abilities to purchase products online, PST strongly discourages sharing your account with other members of your lab.  The user forum is free, and not limited to a specific number of users per site or serial number, so PST encourages each user to create their own account.  By using this forum, you accept that any use of the account falls under your own responsibility and liability.

Role of PST
PST provides the technical mechanism to offer the PST User Support Forum.  Moderation of forum topics will occur on a regular basis, and employees and partners of PST are also free to review and answer forum topics.  However, the main purpose of the PST User Support Forum is as a gateway for sharing information between users.  The PST User Forum is NOT equivalent to or a replacement for PST Technical Support.  Employees of PST are NOT required to answer any thread topic.  IF TECHNICAL SUPPORT IS REQUIRED, PLEASE SEEK THE APPROPRIATE LINKS AVAILABLE ON THE PST WEBSITE.  Although PST is the host of the PST User Support Forum, PST employees will not take steps to ban negative comments about PST or its products, provided the comments are made in a tasteful manner.  When making such comments, please provide proper background information.  General blanket statements will be considered abuse of the forum policies and subject to appropriate liability to the author of the content.

Moderators
PST employees, partners, and select end users will have the ability to moderate forum topics.

Abuse
PST reserves the right to ban, remove, or otherwise block access to any account or IP address at any time.  Proper conduct is not only expected, but required when using the PST User Forum.  Use of foul language, derogatory statements, personal attacks, or inappropriate content will not be tolerated.

Solicitation
Content involving products from competitors is permitted so long as the content does not post links to competitor price sheets, purchase forms, etc.  Direct solicitation of any kind is prohibited.

Public Forum
This is a public forum available for viewing by anyone on the Internet.  It is your responsibility to take the steps necessary to protect any Intellectual Property and to ensure that the message you convey is appropriate for your organization or institution.  By using this forum, you assume the responsibility and liability to any claim that you make or offer.

Cross Posting
Authoring the same question to multiple topic categories is prohibited and subject to having access to the PST User Forum being removed.  Moderators will appropriately move a topic if it can be better served by another forum.  Posting the same question to multiple forums is counterproductive and does not benefit the community at large.
