Hello,

I know this sounds strange, but I hope somebody will be able to help me nonetheless.

I have installed E-Prime (Version 2.0.1.127) on my Laptop. Windows XP SP3 is installed. I can open the program without problems and can also open my experiments with it. As soon as I start to write something in a Textbox or start to drag one around, the program shuts down. A windows screen appears, asking if I want to report the problem and that E-Prime has had to shut down because of technical problems.

One thing I want to mention is that during the installation of the drivers, a windows screen popped up, saying that those drivers were incompatible with the system. This has also happened on another computer with SP3, although there were no further problems.

Is there anything I can do ? I have already tried to deinstall and reinstall the program, which hasn't worked.

Thank you for your help!

First, you should try installing the latest E-Prime 2.0 release candidate (2.0.8.22) available via web support: Download. The Windows messages you saw during installation certainly don't have anything to do with your problem. They just indicate that the drivers installed by E-Prime are currently not certified by Microsoft. So, this is perfectly normal.

Best,
~Dave

Hello.

Thanks for your answer. I have installed the newer version (2.0.8.22). The problem persists. The message says: E-Studio Experiment Design Environment has discovered a problem and needs to be shut down.
When I open the "further information" page, it says something about ModName: slide.ocx and Offset 00072412.

Is there anything else I can try ?

Thank you.

I'm sorry that updating to the latest version didn't work for you. All other recommendations on my part could only amount to shooting in the dark, so I suggest you file a request with E-Prime web support.

Best,
~Dave

Is the problem specific to the Slide or editing text in the TextDisplay also?

Confirm that you have a default printer assigned and it is pointing to something valid and if on a network that the network connection is in tact.  The Slide uses printer information to display fonts.  You can also try to shut down background apps in the event there is a resource conflict.

Thank you for your help.

I did not have a printer installed - I changed this just now and tried again. The program still crashes. Do I have to stay connected to the printer while working with EPrime ? Could there be a problem with using "Arial" instead of the default type ?

I tried editing text in the TextDisplay, which worked fine meaning there was no crash. The problem seems to be slide-specific.

Though I don't believe there is a resource conflict (4 gB RAM) I checked the system workload, which was under 5 %.

Could there be a connection to the Service Pack 3 for Windows XP ?

Thank you for your help !

Bump--Has anybody found a resolution to this? I'm using 2.0.8.22, and it has crashed 4 times in the last 20 minutes while I'm entering text into extremely simplistic slides--14 words total, in three text boxes. That is ridiculous!

Thanks!!

Hi,

Do you enter the text 'on the display' (i.e. add a textbox, click it, write your text) or in the properties of the textobject (i.e. add a textbox, select it, go to the properties and enter the text in the designated box in the properties menu).

AFAIk E-prime has always and will always crash if you enter text in the first way, but doesn't do that if you enter your text via the properties menu.

Good luck!

Thanks Liwenna, this really helps. E-prime now crashes significantly less

Less frustration, but I don't understand why they still haven't fixed this.
