Running EP2 Pro 2.0.1.109 we frequently get the following error message (also saw this with earlier releases):
The operation to load the sound timed out

Available:5512
Duration: 30000000
BufferFull:66150
Presented:5512
Presenting: YesWorking: Yes
TimeStart:69896
TimeOut:79897

What can we do?

More detail: The sound file is 3 seconds long and 64.6 KB. The sound buffer is set to 5 seconds.
What can we do? Thanks.

Any help with the sound timed out error? Or should I submit this as a support request, despite the warning on the support request page? Or will this be fixed in an upcoming release?
Thanks,

I did take this up with PST support (thanks), but it does not seem right to just leave this thread hanging, so here is a little update.
First, we discovered that in addition to the sound timed out error, when sound playback did work it often came after an onset delay of many seconds. Then, after repeated attempts, PST support was able to replicate these problems on their own Vista system.
In futher tests of my own, I found that sound playback worked well with EP1 under Vista, and with EP2 under XP (I did not bother to test EP1 under XP). Problems occurred only with EP2 under Vista.
This may be fixed in a future release of EP2. In the meantime, our only workarounds for playing sounds with E-Prime are to either use EP1 instead of EP2, or to run EP2 under Windows XP instead of Vista.

Update: I installed EP2.0.8.22 and tested again. The sound timed out error still occurs, and on occasions when my little test program does not fail, the sound occurs with onset delays up to several seconds.
So to review, sound output works well with EP1 under XP or Vista, or EP2 under XP, but fails with EP2.0.8.20 under Vista. Perhaps PST will fix the Vista sound incompatibility in a future release.

| The sound timeout errors on Vista should be significantly reduced as of E-Prime 2.0.8.73 by default and when necessary using Sound.LoadAffinity. Please report any problems after updating to this revision (include machine class and status of Windows Update with vista if possible - e.g. Windows Vista SP2 with automatic updates on and using xyz sound card). KB4031 - INFO: Use of Sound.LoadAffinity to diagnose sound loading and playback issues

Hello,
I got the same error (# -999, "the operation to load sound time out") every time with experiments using audio stimuli and that is irrespective of if I use new or older versions of E-prime 2.0, and if I use a computer working with XP or 7. So, a solution to this problem would be more than welcome.
Nevertheless, I didn't understand how to solve the problem using the "sound load affinity" that you just mentionned. Could you give a bit more details on this?
Thanks a lot,
Rémi

I am also having the same error as at the top of the thread since updating to version 2.0.8.73 and running on Win XP.
Is there a fix for this?
I don't really want to roll back to an earlier version since I use it in combination with NetStation and this version is more efficient hardware-wise.

| Hi everyone, Did anyone find a solution to this problem? Because I am having the same problem on E-prime 8.0.74 and XP with Netstation running and cannot seem to find a solution to it. Any suggestion is most welcome. Thanks Sravani
