Hello all,

Having a bit of trouble here. Updated today to Release Candidate (RC) from BETA because it was due to run out in 5 days. I have two weeks of data left to collect.

RC will not play my videos, the rest of the experiment runs fine, but it fails when the video is prompted. This happens in both 1.95 and 1.101. The program says "Runtime Error". And then gives the path to the program, but no other information. I have to say though, the 1.101 build will not remember the registration info and will freeze every time I sign in. It also requires a re-registration every tie I use a different part of it (i.e., estudio, erun) I would prefer not to use that build.

I had previously had problems with videos and had to actually uninstall a current codec and try to run an older codec (DivX 5.2.1). I have tried running videos as both .avi and .mpeg1 and both have the same failure. The still frame of the videos show in the experiment when I open the video box, so the path seems fine, but they fail to open, again it is due to the "runtime error".

I would appreciate any suggestions or help anyone has because I have more subjects to run at 12pm on Monday and would prefer not to interrupt data collection (I have a bit of a bet running on whether I could collect 300 subjects this semester, and have 70 left).

Although I understand the benefit to everyone if we use each new build and troubleshoot it, I would also be very happy just to run an old build for the remainder of the two weeks of data collection. Just expressing the wish for an easy solution.

Thank you in advance for any help. I'm happy to provide any other details needed.

You can apply the patch61 for the beta version to extend past november since you have been collecting data with that version.

For build 100 and later you can setup an InLine with c.SetAttrib "Movie.LoadFactor", x and c.SetAttrib "Sound.LoadFactor", x where x is a number from 1 to 100.  Try a value of 100 for both first and that should assist with the problem.  It is possible on dual processor systems that a value of 5 or less may actually help out.

If you are willing to provide some additional information about your configuration that would be appreciated to correct the issues.  Info on if you are using beta login or hw key, os, etc.

Hi Brandon,

I have some more information about my situation. This reply will refer to my experience working in RC 2.0.1.101 and I will be reverting back to 2.0.1.95 , and if I still have troubles I will add another reply detailing them.

In installing 2.0.1.101 I have found that I am unable to adequately register the program. Upon starting it (every time) I am prompted with a registration box, which asks for my name, institution and serial number. Under this it has a phrase that says "Previous BETA users enter 4198A5-8D7E92-****** for serial number". I have left the last few numbers blank in case I should not post that on this forum. When the box that shows up with the man at the laptop comes up it shows that this is also E-Studio Build 2.0.1.76. Upon clicking OK, a box appears that says, "Unable to save registration information". A gray box briefly appears that says, "Please wait while E-Prime 2.0 installs...", then the registration box appears again. Following this an hourglass appears, and down below I can see that the E-Studio window is minimized, while next to it, also minimized is a blank window box. I have to force close the blank window box to allow the program to being which also opens the e-studio widow. Upon clicking run in the e-studio window after loading the experiment, the program again prompts me for the registration info, and again says that it cannot save that info. Following this, the experiment begins to run, after a delay of about 10 secs during which it just displays a white screen.

My experiment runs well up until it is time to show a video. The experiment presents participants with a series of randomly selected questionnaires of multiple questions each, and then presents them with a video. The participants are prompted to click the mouse button to begin the video. Upon clicking the mouse button the screen goes black, and then goes to the E-Studio window. A window is presented that is titled, "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library". In the window there is a large red circle with a white X, next to which is says, "Runtime Error!". Then it says, "Program: C:\Program Files\PST\E-Prime 2.0\Program\E-Studio.exe", then, "This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information." Upon closing this window, the standard report bug window comes up, I click don't send a report and the application closes. Trying to start E-Studio again results in the same cycle of problems. The same runtime error appears for 2.0.1.95 for me, but it is able to save the registration information.

I am running this on a Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz Dell Optiplex 745 running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2. It has 3GB of RAM. I have another computer that has displayed the same runtime error on 2.0.1.95, but it is a Pentium 4 Dell. Same OS. On both I am running the DivX codec 2.5.1 with windows media player 11 and 9 respectively.

Thanks in advance for any further help you can give me.

Ok, reinstalled the 2.0.1.95 build/E-Studio Build 2.0.1.71. Some things that I noticed that I'm not sure were always there on previous BETA builds. When I loaded the experiment in E-Studio the "Please wait while E-Prime 2.0 initializes..." script came up, and that again came up when I clicked run. Also, the bin files that are created when E-Prime runs a video are no longer being created in the folder where the movies are located (it is a folder that only contains the video files and is located on my desktop) and now when they are created they are located in the "My Experiments" folder. I will try to place the videos and the new path to the videos in the "My experiments" folder.

I have attached an example of using the load factor settings.  If you continue to receive runtime errors with one of the settings then there is another type of problem.

The "e-prime initialize" happens when you load/save, etc when checking for the e-prime license.  Reducing the duration of this dialog is being investigated.

A new build will be available shortly that is targeted to address the "unable to save registration" type of info.
