this is my problem:

My test in eprime contains a slide, which includes a picture plus sound. I need to show the picture 40ms after the sound, but it is just presented at the same time.

could someone help me?

In hope for response, Susan

i think the easiest way to do this is present a slide with a sound and then present a picture as a separate slide. you will have to adjust the timing based on the monitor refresh.

Evelina is right on.  Create your sound object first.  Set its duration to 40 and then place the object with the visual stimulus next and set its duration.  If you want to collect input along any of the objects, then set the "time limit" of the input mask to the duration of the trial or ending period (known as extended input).
