Hi folks.

We have a LumiTouch MR/MEG compatible response pad, currently interfaced via the USB port.

I'm aware of the slow standard polling-rate for USB devices in windows of 125Hz, which makes them questionable for fast timed responses (per discussion here: http://listserv.linguistlist.org/cgi-bin/wa?A2=ind0608c&L=eprime&P=606

I've come across a utility that overcomes this problem by allowing you to set the default rate as high as 1,000 Hz, providing (in theory) 1 ms resolution, which should relieve the timing concerns with USB.

However, in digging around I've also read reports of some programs having buffering problems with the rate set so high, basically the program cannot keep up with the rate at which it is being fed info. These reports mostly come from gamers (e.g. Quake3) who are using this to tweak their mouse control.

I'm wondering if this buffering problem might also be a concern in E-Prime. I would not think so, but wanted to see if any chance anybody else has dealt with this before.

The LumiTouch is treated by Windows as a numeric keypad (basically a keyboard), and does not have it's own drivers, hence I will be "manually" tweaking the polling speed.

Thanks,

Dave
