| Right, I am at the brink of ripping my hair out over this irritating problem: I am trying to run the refreshclocktest.es to verify that my system is capable of accurate timing. In order to do this, the screen saver and power saving utilities need to be disabled. I have done this, however the programme keeps telling me that "it has been detected that either a screen saver of power saving is enabled" Further down the screen it says FAIL for the screen saver, and PASS/SUCCESS for the power settings. Therefore it must be a problem with my screen saver settings, however I have disabled the screen saver so it now says (none) in the screen saver option in my display settings. I don't understand why I the programme won't run. Can anyone suggest a solution?? The other annyoing thing is that once I close the programme and try to go back to my display settings in the control panel I get an error stating "access to the specified device, path or file is denied" despite the fact that I was able to access these settings prior to running the E-Prime refresh clock test programme. I am running Windows 2K on a Pentium 4 with a 2.66GHz processor. I have been able to run the refreshclocktest on a similar PC running Windows XP. Thanks!

| The RCT experiment uses Win32 API commands to make an attempt at detecting the power saving and screen saver settings. It appears the for your configuration and potentially Windows 2000 in general that there may be a flaw in that detection process. The reason the RCT experiment checks for those settings are due to timing issues that could occur when using power settings during an experiment run. The screen saver check is used because if the screen saver kicks in during a longer run of RCT then it will finish in an error and you will not get your results. If you have confirmed that these settings have been turned off or you are unable to turn them off due to network policy, then I would encourage you to use the RCT override by press the letter P on the screen which will permit RCT to continue (the fine print). -Brandon

For the record, I get the same problem running RefreshClockTest on my Vista system, even after scrupulously disabling all screen savers and power savings features. Apparently RefreshClockTest does not work yet with the Vista API. As suggested, I just press P continue. Alternatively, I might just edit my copy of the program code to remove the screen & power saving test.
